This morning Makoa was a bit sad we would be leaving Hong Kong tomorrow. "Why don't you want to leave?" "Because I just met my best friend." Ah, breaks a mommy's heart. Makoa is a bit slow to make friends, but he and Kai were besties right from the start. I think we may need to plan another trip to meet somewhere in the world again!
Needless to say we planned on spending a lot of time with Kai today. Today was badminton day - Mabo reserves a court at their apartment every Wednesday, so we joined them.
Today was also the day that the camera crew was following! Jessica teaches English at a public school, yet her English/Japanese speaking son cannot enroll in public education. Right now he is being homeschooled by Mabo until they can move house and jobs to be closer to a Japanese school where he was accepted. They are one of 3 families whose stories made the news and they were interviewed for this documentary and today they were followed for 'a day in the life of a home schooled child.' Makoa may be in the show too :)
Kiara's babysitter had to go though so we all went back up to the house so that Makoa and I could watch her while Mabo and Kai finished up.
Makoa loves babies :)
We then took the boys to the play area at our hotel. You could see their apartment block from our place.
I think I mentioned before that we are staying in the 'suburbs', looks a bit different than the US though! We were in such a convenient location, right across the street from friends, and along the light rail line. So, happy we stayed here instead of Kowloon.
After Jessica had come home and fed baby we took the train to Kowloon for an Indian dinner, then the dads took 4 kids on the bus home so that Jessica and I could get foot massages. Oh yea, good hubbies! A magical massage later and Jess and I were ready for bed, but a few miscommunications and electronic hiccups later the kids were up playing till 1am! The boys were so cute it was hard to separate them, but I still had 2 hours of packing ahead of me. Late night before a travel day is not the best idea, but it was totally worth the extra time we got to spend with Jessica, Mabo, Kai, and Kiara!
Budget:
Accommodation - $96
Food - Thanks Jessica!
Massages - $36
Laundry - $8
